The DMC Community Dermatology Service provides consultant-led, community-based care and advice to NHS patients registered within Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge CCGs.

We assess and treat a variety of skin problems, delivering high standards of care closer to  home and reducing unnecessary hospital appointments.

How our service works

Pre-appointment

GP appointment

See your GP about your skin condition

GP refers to DMC

If required your GP will refer you to DMC Community Services

Appointment booked

GPs will use a national IT system called e-Referral Service to refer you to us

Appointment confirmation

DMC will confirm your appointment by letter, text or phone

At appointment

Arrive at clinic

Please notify reception and our healthcare assistant that you have arrived

Consultation

Our specialist consultant will treat you in a one-stop clinic, and if neccessary, will perform minor surgery

Outcome

At the end of the consultation you will be discharged or booked in for a follow-up appointment

Onward referral

Sometimes it is necessary to refer you to secondary care

Information for GPs: conditions you can refer to us

Inclusions

  • Patients must be registered with a GP within BHR CCGs
  • Patients must be aged 5 and over
  • Mild to moderate eczema, lichen planus, urticaria, fungal infections
  • Stable plaque psoriasis, guttate psoriasis and psoriasis of the palm and soles
  • Premalignant skin lesions such as solar keratoses or Bowen’s disease
  • Low risk BCCs on trunks and limbs
  • Acne conditions requiring isotretinoin (Roaccutane)
  • Diagnosis, investigation or management of other chronic rashes in adults unless diagnostic doubt
  • Diagnosis, investigation or management of mild/moderate/non-worrying dermatoses and skin lesion in children unless diagnostic doubt
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Conditions of hair, scalp and nails

Exclusions

  • Urgent suspected skin cancer to be referred as two week wait
  • Under 5s
  • Patients not registered with a Barking and Dagenham, Havering or Redbridge GP Practice
  • Warts
  • Wounds
  • Minor Surgery DES, Levels 1,2 and 3
