This week's topic is:
Sexual Health: The preventative HIV drug (PrEP)
What is the PrEP drug? :
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is the pre-sex drug that reduces the chances of contracting HIV. Although it has been around since 2012, many have not been aware of it. Currently, PrEP is available in Scotland and Wales.
Whereas the HIV treatment costs around £500,000, estimatedly, PrEP costs £5,000 per person.
Is this drug too expensive to be provided free by the NHS?
We spoke with Nupur Makoday and Stephen Mulvey at DMC Healthcentre's Head Office to get their opinions on this new development!
